DL-Dithiothreitol is a high quality research product used to stabilize enzymes and other proteins, which possess free sulfhydryl groups. It is effective in sample buffers for reducing protein disulfide bonds, and can also reducing the disulfide bridge of the cross-linker N,N'-bis(acryloyl)cystamine to break apart the matrix of a polyacrylamide gel.

This product is a ready-to-use aqueous solution with a concentration of 1M. The working concentration is between 0.1 and 1mM. This solution should be stored in aliquots at -20°C and protected from heat while working. A sufficient amount should be added to the solutions in the experiment, since it oxidizes relatively quickly in air.
