Minimum Essential Medium Eagle - Alpha Modification (Alpha-MEM) with Nucleosides is recommended for a wide variety of cell culture applications.This α-MEM differs from the original formula, because it is supplemented with L-alanyl-L-glutamine dipeptide. This is the most enriched variation of the MEM formulation offered. It contains all 21 normal amino acids, some at increased concentrations. In addition, it contains 5 additional vitamins.MEM has typically been used for the cultivation of cells grown in monolayers, however additional supplementation to Alpha MEM has expanded the applications for this medium.  Alpha-Minimal Essential Medium is frequently combined with fetal bovine serum (FBS, 10%) as Alpha-Minimal Essential Medium composition does not include the growth factors, proteins, hormones, or lipids needed to promote cell growth.
