The special qualities of the fixative include good penetration, good fixation of nuclei and mitotic chromosomes, and little shrinkage after paraffin embedding. The fixative is also easy to use and has a flexible fixation period (nominally 48 h). It can be used routinely for the fixation of a wide range of tissues.
